Building on its ISO 9001:2015 certification, GYSBI – Guyana’s largest shore base recently announced that it is now ISO 45001:2018 certified.
ISO 45001 is an international standard that specifies the requirements for a management system for occupational health and safety (OHS). It gives organizations a framework for managing risks and opportunities to help prevent worker illnesses and injuries.
With the ISO 450001:2018 certification in hand, GYSBI outlined that the company benefits internally by being capable of consistently delivering quality services to its clients while externally, it promotes increased business prospects for the company through global recognition.
“GYSBI is committed to promoting employee well-being and providing a safe, healthy, and secure working environment, for the prevention of work-related injury and ill health,” it said in its announcement. “The health and safety aspect of our management system focuses on reducing and eliminating identified hazards effectively and we empower our staff to intervene and prevent unsafe acts and conditions and encourage maximum participation in continually improving this management system.”

GYSBI provides services for the oil and gas industry in Guyana. It is currently the country’s premier shore base supplying a range of integrated services.
It supports a range of clients across its 140-acre development, with highly trained staff, and services compliant with international standards and best practices. It has also been dedicated to the recruitment, development, and retention of Guyanese talent.
The company has planned a massive expansion, pegged somewhere around nine figures. It secured a US$10 million bridge loan from NCB Merchant Bank out of Trinidad and Tobago to finance this.
The set expansion is expected to take place on 170 acres of canefield lands located over at the Industrial Estate. Up to February, GYSBI had cleared a significant chunk of the lands there. NCB said the funds will help GYSBI to secure open and covered storage, berthing supply for vessels, operational personnel and loading/unloading logistics support.
GYSBI also secured an 11-year extension contract for continued service to Stabroek Block operator ExxonMobil.
